Abstract

The present work aims to investigate the proposal of seven colors for the rainbow in the works of Isaac Newton as well as its motivations, both experimental and cultural, for this accomplishment. It will be seen that the suggestion of seven colors has influence of facts that can be considered extra scientific, often erased from the history of science and when cited are aimed at distinguishing the archaic and symbolic past from the modern and scientific present.
