The pandemic of the pandemic, the science behind the "fake news"
Abstract
The rise of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world stage has increased the need to understand Science. On the other hand, social networks have become a plentiful channel of false or distorted information; better known as “fake news”. Many of these news quickly slip to the population as well-based guidance by "experts", but which, in the light of the facts, demonstrate another type of pandemic, that of scientific misinformation. In this article we explore some of the “bad” examples of “fake news” associated with Science, revealing them as a more adequate meaning and also proposing to take advantage of them as an opportunity for application as educational resources and social awareness.
