Music & creativity: transdisciplinarity and transversalities in the drug debate with distance learning students

Abstract

In relation to drug use, studies point to an early initiation among young people, the result of different stimuli, from easy access to the difficulty of spaces for dialogue on the topic. Therefore, we recognize the relevance of the discussions about the different factors involved in the use of different drugs. Talking about drugs is not easy. The university has the potential to create spaces for dialogue and learning about the motivations and implications of using these substances. In this bet, we believe in the potential of art - especially music - as a teaching strategy to initiate or complement debates on different drugs in society, stimulating new views and youth positions that corroborate a more dialogical and democratic preventive process. In the context of artistic tools, this study discusses the use of the song “Thursday”, by the composer Chorão, of the Charlie Brown group, as an educational strategy that promotes more dialogical debates about drugs. This event took place in an oral communication of the VI Academic Week and II Week of Natural Sciences among students of the distance learning course of the CEDERJ Consortium, for Nova Iguaçu in 2017. What was observed in the brief discussion with the participants was that the music is seen by students as a potential tool to foster open, critical and participatory debates in classrooms.
